  Attic dialect ἐλάττων, ον, genitive ονος: superlative ἐλάχιστος (which see): — smaller, less, formed from ἐλαχύς (which see), but serving as comparative to μικρός, δουρηνεκὲς ἢ καὶ ἔλασσον Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 10.357 ; τοὔλασσον ἔχειν to have the worse, be worse off, πάντῃ Theognis Elegiacus 269; οὐδὲν ἔλασσον ἔχειν τῇ μάχῃ Herodotus Historicus 9.102; ἔ. ἔχειν παρά τινι Demosthenes Orator 21.187; ἐλάττων γίγνεσθαι Aristophanes Comicus “Equites” 441, Demosthenes Orator 3.29; οὐκ ἐλάσσονα πάσχειν Aeschylus Tragicus “Persae” 813 ; ἐλάττω νομίσας τὴν ἀρχὴν ἢ κατὰ τὴν αὑτοῦ φύσιν εἶναι too small for.., Isocrates Orator 11.11 : absolutely, too small, Theophrastus Philosophus “Characteres” 23.9 ; below the average in height, PLips. 1.9, etc.
