  serving as passive to ἐπιτίθημι, to be laid upon, and so,
__I. of doors, to be put to or closed compare (ἐπιτίθημι 11), θύραι δ᾽ ἐπέκειντο φαειναί Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 6.19: metaph., γλώσσῃ θύραι οὐκ ἐπίκεινται Theognis Elegiacus 421.
__I.2. generally, to be placed, lie in or on, with dative, ἐπισκύνιον ἐπέκειτο προσώπῳ Theocritus Poeta Bucolicus 24.118; of troops, ὄχθαις Ἴστρου ἐ. Hdn. 2.9.1.
