__A.2.b without an accusative, φονέα ἐλάνθανε βόσκων he maintained the murderer unawares, Herodotus Historicus 1.44; λέληθας ἐχθρὸς ὤν Sophocles Tragicus “Oedipus Tyrannus” 415; δουλεύων λέληθας Aristophanes Comicus “Vespae” 517; συνέβη δὲ ὑπερημέρῳ γενομένῳ λαθεῖν Demosthenes Orator 21.89 : the reflexive pronoun may be supplied and is sometimes added, λέληθεν αὑτὸν τοῖς ξυνοῦσιν ὢν βαρύς Sophocles Tragicus “Fragmenta” 103; ἕως σαυτὸν λάθοις διαρραγείς Aristophanes Comicus “Pax” 32, compare “Nu.” 242, Xenophon Historicus “Anabasis” 6.3.22: sometimes, however, a different object must be supplied from the context, βάλλοντες ἐλάνθανον (not ἑαυτούς, but Τρῶας) Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 13.721; ἐλάνθανε πάντας ἔχων Herodotus Historicus 8.5 ; μὴ διαφθαρεὶς λάθῃ τινὰ ὁ βίος Sophocles Tragicus “Philoctetes” 506; μὴ λάθῃ ἡμᾶς φύγδα βάς Aeschylus Tragicus “Eumenides” 256 (Lyric poetry), compare Thucydides Historicus 4.133, etc. —In a few examples this constr. is reversed, and λαθών is put in the participle, as in our idiom, ἀπὸ τείχεος ἆλτο λαθών (for ἔλαθεν ἁλόμενος) Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 12.390; ἣ.. λήθουσά μ᾽ ἐξέπινες Sophocles Tragicus “Antigone” 532.
__A.3 rarely with accusative et infinitive, μή σε λαθέτω ὑπερτιθέμεν let it not escape thee to.., i.e. forget not to.., Pindarus Lyricus “P.” 5.23; ἔλαθεν αὐτὸν σύνθημα δοῦναι Plutarchus Biographus et Philosophus “Aristides” 17 ; σφᾶς λέληθε Θεόδωρον εἶναι it has been unnoticed that it was.., Pausanias Periegeta 9.41.1.
__A.4 followed by a relative clause, οὐδέ με λήθεις, ὅττι θεῶν τίς σ᾽ ἦγε thou escapest me not, it is not unknown to me, that some god led thee, Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 24.563; οὐδέ ἑ λήθει, ὅππως.. 23.323 ; ἐδόκεες θεοὺς λήσειν οἷα ἐμηχανῶ thou thought'st to escape the gods' notice in.., Herodotus Historicus 8.106; οὔκουν με.. οἷα πράττεις λανθάνει Aristophanes Comicus “Equites” 465 ; οὐ λανθάνεις με, ὅτι..
