__2 impersonal πνίγει, of great heat, it is stifling, Aristoteles Philosophus “Problemata” 941b4, 944a7.
__3 metaphorically, vex, torment, ἕνα χαλκοῦν ἀποβαλὼν αὑτὸν π. Philodemus Gadarensis Epigrammaticus “Ir.” p.37 W. ; ὃ δὲ μάλιστά με πνίγει variant in Lucianus Sophista “Prom.” 17 ; oppress by exactions, 'squeeze', Julianus Imperator “Misopogon” 368c.
