__1 judge, umpire at a contest, Plato Philosophus “Protagoras” 338a.
__2 magistrate's attendant, staff-bearer, beadle, Aristophanes Comicus “Pax” 734, “UPZ” 3.6 (2nd c.BC, probably), “IG” 9(2).735 (Larissa, 3rd c.BC), 1109.24 (Coropa, 2nd c.BC), NT.Act.16.35; so, probably, in Thucydides Historicus 5.50 : especially at Rome, of the lictors who carried the fasces, Polybius Historicus 5.26.10, etc.: also ῥαβδοῦχοι, αἱ , female attendants on Oenanthe, mother of Agathocles, prev. author 15.29.13.
