a gem of green hue (Plinius Rerum Naturalium Scriptor “Historia Naturalis” 37.107) , hence probably chrysolite or peridot, Anthologia Graeca 6.329 (Leon. Alexander Rhetor), Josephus Historicus “Antiquitates Judaicae” 3.7.5, Dionysius Periegeta 1121, Orphica “Lithica” 278 :—also τόπαζον, τό, Eust.ad Dionysius Periegeta same place ; τοπάζιον, LXX.Exo.28.17, LXX.Psa.118(119).127, 1st cStrabo Geographus 16.4.6, Diodorus Siculus Historicus 3.39, NT.Rev.21.20:—Pliny (“HN” same place)+1st c.BC+ gives the name of topazon (variant topazium) to two varieties. (From the Trogodyte language accusative to Plinius Rerum Naturalium Scriptor same place; perhaps the same as ταβάσιος.)
