ὑπο-κριτής, -οῦ, ὁ (< ὑποκρίνομαι, q.v.) [in LXX Jb 34:30 36:13 (חָנֵף H2611) * ;] 1. one who answers, an interpreter (Plat.). 2. a stage player, actor (Plut., Xen., al.). Metaph. (in LXX and NT), a pretender, dissembler, hypocrite: Mt 6:2, 5, 16 7:5 15:7 22:18 23:13-15 24:51, Mk 7:6 Lk 6:42 12:56 13:15.†
