χρηματίζω (< χρῆμα), [in LXX: Je 33 (26):2 36 (29):23 37 (30):2 43 (36):2, 4 A (דּבר ^H1696 pi.), 32:16 (25:30) (שׁאג ^H7580), III Ki 18:27, Jb 40:3 (8) * ;] 1. to transact business, hence, to consult, deliberate (Thuc., Dem., al.); hence in later writers, 2. to make answer (esp. of offcial pronouncements by magistrates, etc.; in π. of the royal reply to an ἔντευξις, q.v.; cf. Deiss., BS, 122); of an answer by an oracle (Diod., Plut., al.); in FlJ, LXX and NT, of divine communications, to instruct, admonish, warn: pass. (Bl., § 54, 3), Mt 2:22, He 8:5 11:7 12:25; c. inf. (Bl., § 69,4; 70, 3; 72, 5), Mt 2:12, Lk 2:26, Ac 10:22 3. to assume a name (as in business), be called (Polyb., al.): Ac 11:26, Ro 7:3 (gnomic fut.; cf. Burton, § 69).†

__II.3 with accusative of things, χ. τὸ νόμισμα traffic in money, like a money-lender or banker, Aristoteles Philosophus “Politica” 1257b34 ; but with accusative person, χ. τινας make money out of any one, i. e. get it from them by extortion, Polybius Historicus 32.5.13; so χ. παρὰ τῶν νεωτέρων Isocrates Orator 10.6.

__III.1 to take and bear a title or name, to be called or styled so and so, χρηματίζειν βασιλεύς Polybius Historicus 5.57.2, 30.2.4, cf. Aristeas 298; Πτολεμαῖος.. νέος Διόνυσος χ. Diodorus Siculus Historicus 1.44 ; ἐχρημάτιζε Χαλκηδόνιος, Κρητικός, 1st cStrabo Geographus 13.1.55, Appianus Historicus “Σικελική” 6; νέα Ἶσις ἐχρημάτιζε Plutarchus Biographus et Philosophus “Antonius” 54 ; μὴ πατρόθεν, ἀλλ᾽ ἀπὸ μητέρων χ. to call themselves not after their fathers, but after their mothers, prev. author 2.248d; χ. ἀπὸ τοῦ δήμου Harpocratio Grammaticus see at {δημοτευόμενο; χ. τοὺς μαθητὰς Χριστιανούς} NT.Act.11.26 ; τιμῆς καὶ πίστεως χ. ἄξιοι to be deemed.., Appianus Historicus “Bella Civilia” 2.111.
__III.2 generally, to be called, μοιχαλίς NT.Rom.7.3: μήτηρ Philo Judaeus 1.440 ; καὶ ὡς χ. 'and so forth' (omitting some of the writer's names), “POxy.” 100.1 (2nd c.AD), etc.; also with dat., ἀεὶ -ίζων τῷ προκειμένῳ ὀνοματίῳ prev. work 2131.8 (3rd c.AD).
