Martin Luthers »Judenschriften«
Die Rezeption im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert
Auteur: Harry Oelke

Samenvatting

This volume focuses upon the impact of Martin Luther’s anti-Jewish books (“Judenschriften”) in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a topic that has until now received little scholarly attention. Rather than adopting the one-dimensional perspective of Luther’s historical failure, it considers the theological and historical framework that shaped the reception of his works. It brings to the fore the problematic impact of Luther’s books on modern theological discourse and historical developments, including Anti-Semitism and the Nazi era. Finally, it illuminates the reception of Luther’s anti-Jewish books within the Anglo-American world, as well as their reappraisal within Protestantism since 1945.
