Combining philological and archaeological perspectives Ronja Jacob provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of cosmetics in ancient Palestine: the drugs used as ingredients, production of oil and ointment, the terminology used in the Hebrew; exemplarily the role of cosmetics in Old and New Testament books is studied, as well as the iconography of cosmetics in surrounding cultures. Within the archaeological focus of the study, the storage of cosmetics in both Megiddo and Hazor are carved out of the excavation I reports and are puzzeld together to shed light on the ancient Levantine cosmetics industry.
